Commentary: The State Of The City Of Orlando

OrlandoCityHallby Tim Adams
There have been many lofty, but false, misleading promises made to the citizens and tax payers of the inner city of Orlando, Florida. These false and misleading promises include and not limited to these: To Wit:

"In order to establish a better future for people living in the Inner City of Orlando's District, in June 2005 Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and District 5 City Commissioner Daisy W. Lynum partnered together to create the initiative, 'Pathways for Inner City of Orlando.'

With more than 73% of Orlando's Inner City children living in poverty, 47% of adults living without a stable education and juvenile arrest rates 2 ½ times that of Orlando's citywide rates during that time, the program wanted to revitalize the historic Orlando Inner City community.

With two years worth of research and stakeholder input, the Pathways initiative decided to focus on five key areas:
1. Housing
2. Public safety
3. Business development
4. Children and education
5. Quality of life

The goal for the last several years and years to come is to restore the Inner City of Orlando Heritage community into a safe, livable, sustainable and prosperous place where Orlando citizens, businesses and institutions canJericho Logo200X67 thrive."

It is very sad that these promises made by elected officials are not sincere. The Affordable and Market Rate Housing that was promised to the area has likewise been abandoned. The inner city of Orlando has NOT been supported by the Office of the Mayor or Commission.
